An essential function of any medical examination glove is to provide an effective barrier against infection. First-aiders, ERT personnel, health care workers, and patients depend on and expect the usage of only quality medical examination gloves. Ensure you are purchasing medical examination gloves which meet or exceed the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB), Health Canada Health Protection Branch (I.L. No. 777), and U.S.A. Food and Drug Standards requirements.
Medical examination glove packaging must give sufficient information to determine whether it's intended use is appropriate. Look for the CGSB Certification Mark on all boxes of Medical Examination Gloves - this means you can wear those medical examination gloves with confidence. Medical Examination Gloves that do not bear the CGSB Certification should be considered for non-medical procedures only.

Gloves of questionable quality are available in the Canadian marketplace. They are purchased because they are considered less expensive. On the surface, purchasing non-certified gloves may seem to be cost effective - but is it really? Experience with gloves of questionable quality suggests there is a large amount of wastage due to tears when donning the gloves, premature failure in use, or "double-gloving" to increase protection. Once you factor in the health risks and the real cost of inferior gloves, their price quickly escalates. To receive the best value for your purchasing dollar, buyers need to be assured that the medical examination gloves they purchase will perform as expected every time. |
